CREDIT EQUIVALENCY ASSESSMENT PROGRAM PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT GUIDE
Portfolio assessment is the method used by our school to allow a student to challenge a course or subject area for credit. Assessing the student portfolio allows documentation of college level knowledge gained through life experience and or job experience as well as other non-standard learning experiences.
This “experiential knowledge” documentation is kept on file for accreditation purposes. This process allows the consolidation of past credits and to provide credit for college level knowledge gained through various nonstandard learning experiences.
The portfolio preparation must be specific. It is necessary to compile, categorize and document all information pertaining to course or subject areas the student wishes to be considered for credit.
Evidence is the physical documentation that is included in the portfolio to justify the awarding of credit. The faculty assessor will be evaluating the directness of the evidence, the authenticity of the evidence, as well as breadth and quality of the non-standard learning experienced presented.
An example of direct evidence would be a letter from an employer or supervisor stating the facts of specific area of experience, involvement or participation in the “experiential knowledge area being considered.
The issue of authenticity is critical to earning credit through portfolio assessment. Does the evidence document that the student actually did what is stated?
BREATH
Breath is the scope of the knowledge obtained. Is the experiential knowledge broad enough to be equated to college level credit?
QUALITY
The issue of quality relates specifically to the documentation of how good the work of experiential knowledge actually is.
Examples of acceptance evidence include: license, ministrial credentials, certifications, newspaper/magazine articles, transcripts, diplomas, letters confirmation, performance evaluation forms, lists of books read or taught, programs listing speaker’s names, course taught, seminars or projects originated with students names on them.
When evidence alone seems to be insufficient, credit is not automatically denied. If the faculty assessor has questions about evidence provided, an interview by telephone or in person may be required to further substantiate and validate the evidence. additional documentation may be requested.
REQUIRED INFORMATION TO BE INCLUDED
Possible items of documentation for Non-standard learning activities: submit information in the following categories, which would furnish evidence for possible course or subject areas being challenged. (Include any additional categories not listed, which could be considered for credit).
COST OF THE STUDIES:
The cost of studies in regular schooling is not the same with evening studies, weekend studies, neither with those of church extension studies nor with the executive home studies. The cost studies in these four are higher than the regular studies. The most expensive one among all, is the executive home studies, that are basically carried to the homes of those who can cater the bills.
