THE HISTORY AND BUSINESS OF THE STUDENTS UNION OF EL THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE


This page of the website features the entire history and business of the students union of El Theology college Nigeria. The students’ union is a godly association formed among the students body to support and assist in the growth and advancement of El Theological college and to work with the dean of students of life to build the student body in the best godly way and to produce the desires of God within them.

UNIT ONE
THE HISTORY OF STUDENTS UNION IN EL THEOLOGICAL COLLEGE
The students union in El Theological college was founded in2002 by the effort and vision of the president and founder of the institution. It was founded after two years that the institution was established. The aim of founding the students’ union in El Theological college was to have and initiate solid and progressive administration, with balanced growth and achievements. Student union government was created to have steady union government was created to have steady prayer band, evangelism team, active drammer group, choristers and direct instrument that shall make the institution to grow and to expand.

Many students chairmen have emerged and have ruled the students body since the birth of the students union. Stated below are the past chairmen of the students union and their years.
NATHANIEL IGBOJIONU
He was the first students union president. He initiated students union meetings, students prayers and the united effort of the students. The school was well advertized during his tenure that attracted the outsiders to the college which resulted to initial growth of Eltheco.

SYLVENUS DURUOHA
He was the second president of the students union, the school was taken to the spirit realm during his administration. Disciple was fully introduced that outsiders heard much about the school and desired to belong. The time of coming and closing were fully ordered during his reign.

JONATHAN IFENNA
He was the third president of the students union. He exalted discipline, academic research and students devotion. His regime was full of seriousness, early attendance, regular school attendance and hardworking among the students. The students and staff were going out for private prayers and consecration during his days and the atmosphere was very conducive during his leadership. His regime marked the combination of academic and spirituality.

SUNDAY ACHOR
He was the fourth president of the students’ union and the first to initiate the importance of money among the students’ union. The students realized their duties and their usefulness in the growth of the El Theological college. This does not mean that there was no monetary involvement before his regime.

LONGINUS DANIEL
This was the fifth leader (chairman) of the student government of El Theologial college. At his regime, the college was so involved in operation catch some students which was too successful. The college was so advertize that created higher fame of the college. There was calmness, love, unity, progress and growth during his reign. The college and students body were too conscious of heaven and righteousness during his tenure.

DONATUS EKECHUKWU
This is the sixth president of the students union. He showed exemplary life of meekness, holiness and cool headedness. The students at his regime embarked in continueous prayers, obedience to the college authority and services to other students as were ordered by the college authority.

JOSEPH CHIGBU
This is the seventh president of the students’ union. He was a man of prayer, vision and a man of action. He introduced the usage of while chairs in the college, introduced the purchase of strong desk in the school and introduced the students on how to support and build the school. He purchased some of the chairs and desks with his money and motivated the students to do the same. The students caught up the disciplined life, seriousness, earliness and steadiness in the school during his regime. He finally made the students to assume their duties of building, supporting and contributing to the growth and advancement of the school. The college grew rapidly at his regime.

FRANK NWOKORO
This is the eighth president of the students’ union. He was a disciplined man and a leader of action. He picked up where his predecessor stopped and did wonders. The students purchased organs and other musical instruments at his regime. He made the students to be focused and diligent. He made the students to be supporters and co-builders of El Theological college. He had the burden of the growth of this college in his heart and achieved the growth with visible signs. The most numerical growth of the school was during his regime and his emphasis was on the growth of the school with motivational key to the students as each student was motivated to come with new student each trimester.

THEOPHILUS NWABUEZE CHIMA
This is the ninth chairman of the students union. He was a stricker, builder, organizer, leader and motivator. He made the students to be responsive and very useful. The students union was very organized during his days, in his regime the students purchased drums, speakers and other musical instruments. Seriousness, diligence, promptness, sincerity and supportiveness were the order of his days. He purchased a bass guiter for the students union in order to support the musical equipment. He made the students union great instrument to build El Theological college.

ABEL CHIBUIKE
This is the tenth chairman of the students government. He changed a successful chairman of the students union and continued where his predecessor stopped. His regime purchased the white board for the class studies that use marker. His regime was calmed and disciplined regime and ended up successfully.

ISAAC OKECHI
This is the eleventh chairman of the students union. He is a gentleman, spiritual giant, a pastor and one with the fear of God with great love to those he is leading. He surrendered his right and forfeited his exams in order to accommodate the debtor students. He led with exemplary christian exhibitions and often encouraged the students. His regime was peaceful and successful.

At his regime the students body purchased a brand new generator for the college. He was the last among the appointed chairman of the students union. His regime was the last appointed regime before the students general election that took place on 10th February, 2016 at the college hall.

IKECHI NWANOKORO
Ikechi Nwanokoro is the twelfth chairman of the students’ union and also the first students president that was elected. His election with some other senior officers of the students union took place on Feb 10th 2016 at 200 Port-Harcourt Road Aba. He is the last students chairman at 200 Port-Harcourt Road and the first at the college permanent site at Asa Nnentu village UGWULGA – Abia State.

FUNCTIONS OF THE UNION
To help the school grow
To advertize the college
To build and support the college
To maintain peace in the college
To contribute morally, financially, spiritually and materially for the growth of the college
To do things that shall glorify God in the college.

UNIT TWO
THE PURPOSES OF THE STUDENTS UNION IN THIS INSTITUTION
Students’ union is not a riotous group, not a political organization, not worldly set up, and not self union. It is not social club and never secret society but a holiness organization for the growth, peace, advancement, advertisement and unity of the college. Below are the purposes of its establishment.

To create great awareness of the school in the society and in the community of men.
To work hard for the growth of the school and project all that shall lead to the survival of the college.
To support the build projects of the college, to give cash, support the school with material things, finance in labour and in every activity.
To form solid prayer band, evangelism team, drammer team, chorister and set up ministerial supporters of the college.
To bring spiritual atmosphere, unity, love and friendship in the college for the smooth running of the institution.
To implement discipline, obedience and holiness among the students and within the campus.
To bring orderliness, respect and understanding among the students.
To work on each other for good, to restore the weak and to call back all drop out and discouraged students.
To encourage earliness, steadiness to the school and serious attendance of the students to the college.
To work in agreement with the vision and mission of the president and founder of the college.
To plan for the appreciation day of the president in December of every year and to plan for the appreciation day of the lecturers every December of the year.
To register every student as a member of the students union in this college.


UNIT THREE
APPROVED OFFICERS OF THE STUDENTS UNION AND THEIR DUTIES
El Theological college, El university of Theology and international institute of missions have approved officers of the students union and the executive officers of the student union government. Below are the students officers in our institution and their duties.

THE STUDENTS’ CHAIRMAN
The chairman is the number one citizen of the students union and the chief executive of the students council, the chairman of the students government and the presiding officer of all their meetings. He is to initiate visions that will cause growth and spirituality. His duties include to check and to supervise the records of the course rep, the works of the tribunal chairman, the activities of the PRO, the activities of the campus director and the works and records of all elected officers and sign all on monthly basis after checking their records of activities. He has right to direct them where necessary. He is to initiate students projects, labours businesses, and helpful programmes in order to make the school grow. He must focus growth, peace, spirituality and progress of the school.

COURSE REP
Course Rep is the academic officer of the students’ union and the mediator between the students and the teaching staff. His duties include supervising all students exams to avoid exam malpractices, to record all students that took exams and those who did not take, to receive class attendance books from each class on daily or weekly basis and to give such reports to the chairman on monthly basis. He is to know the qualified student to be promoted from his level to the next level and to make sure students take all their exams and finish their payments before going to the next level. It is his duty to obtain clearance from the bursar to issue such student before advancing to the next level. He must make sure every newly admitted student purchased and provided all required items of admission as stipulated in the students handbook pg 58 and also meet all graduating students to comply with all graduation items as were stipulated in pg 58 of the handbook.

The course Rep in addition to his duties shall seriously and sincerely write down, how many times each course came to a class in a trimester and how many times did each student studied such course, through their class register or through their class attendance book.

CAMPUS DIRECTOR
The campus director is the student officer incharge of students movements, hostel activities, students movements while studies are going on. His duties include, issuing paper authority to students who wish to go out from the school or from the hostel while classes are going on. No student should leave the campus without obtaining paper permission from him. It is also his duties to know those who are marked by frequent movements, frequent absence and frequent lateness to the school and report them to tribunal. He also give his record book to the students union chairman on monthly basis for his evaluation and correction. Visitors and enquiries regarding the campus shall be directed to him. Hostel supervisors are all under his management. Hostel misunderstanding involving students shall be directed to him for his proper evaluation and settlement.

TRIBUNAL CHAIRMAN
This is the chairman or the chief judge of the students’ union. He has four other students in his committee called the “Tribunal” His duties with his committee are to look into cases of lateness, truancy, debt, disobedience, carelessness, leaving without permission, closing before the closing hour, sins, gossip and reports of negligence involving any students. Any student found guilty of any of these or others shall be disciplined, given job to do, pay a fine of N200, N400, N600, N800 or N1000 as the case may be or be dismissed from the school with the approval of the president of the institution. The tribunal must seat at least once or twice a month to look into cases at their table. The tribunal chairman shall give his records of activities to the chairman of the students union on monthly basis.

PUBLIC RELATION OFFICER
The public relation officer is an officer in the students union government. He is the mediator between the staff and the students, the mediator between the college president and the students union and the personal assistant (P.A) to the president and founder of the institution. He is the minister for external affairs and the extended hand of the institution to the public and the society. He is an important instrument of errand to reach important people, government officials and notable individuals on behalf of the college or on behalf of the college president. He shall give the reports of his connections, vision and missions to the chairman of the student union on trimester basis for evaluation and advice.

STUDENTS CHAPLAIN
The student chaplain is the director of worship and Christian fellowship. He is in charge of prayers, chapel services, evangelism and in charge of students devotion. He is also in charge of all spiritual activities and Christian programmes of the college with a close relationship with chairman of the students union. He must be an example to others in all areas of the spiritual activities.

The campus director in addition to his duties shall know the students who are owing the school and those who are not owing and devise means or set task force to recover the debts from the debtors in order to make the school grow.

He must have a record to record the attendance of the chapel services, those who do not attend and those who leave before the time. He shall give his monthly records of activities to the chairman of the student union.

CONTACT DIRECTOR
The contact director is a student officer whose duties are to record all present, past and immediate and all matriculating and graduating students of the college, to record in a separate book, their names, phone numbers, churches of membership, office addresses, house addresses and their occupations. He is to know when they shall graduate and where they later those who left the college before their graduation, reason for their leaving and where they presently live with their phone numbers. He shall regularly call their and know what they are doing. Contact director shall give records and account of activities of his office to the chairman of the students union on trimester basis.
LABOUR PREFECT
This is a student officer in charge of sanitation. He is the sanitary inspector of the students union. His duties are to give labours to late comers, those convicted by the tribunal, those that are absent for more than six times in a trimester and to make sure that the compound is next. He should not and report the habitual late comers to the tribunal and to make sure the school property are kept safe every weekend and every time. He should report his weekly activities on record to the chairman students union.

SOCIAL AND WALFARE DIRECTOR
This is an officer in the students union whose duties are to see, care, run for and see that our graduations, matriculations, ordinations and other ceremonies of the college are successful. He has committed working with him known as the social and welfare committee. They must do all at their reach to see the success of all our programmes, keeping water, drinks, chairs, foods and all other things ready in all our programmes. He shall give his recorded reports to the chairman of the students union immediately after each programme or not more than ten days after any programme of this college.

EQUIPMENT AND MUSIC DIRECTOR
This is specifically the man in charge of the music equipment and other electronics of the college. He is a student officer in charge of the music, generator, electrical issues and other things in relation to machineries in this college. He is the music director and has others working with him known as the music and equipment committee. They shall make sure all these are unfunctional condition in all our programmes to avoid disappointment. He shall give his records account or reports to the students union chairman every mouth and after programmes.

TIME REGULATOR
This is a student officer that regulates times knowing when each course begins and expires. He shall ring bell to show when to start a lecture and when to end such lecture. He is to direct the students on break time, chapel time and closing time. He is the town crier of the college and the general regulator of the school. He shall always come on time and records the names of all late comers on daily basis and submits his records report to the students chairman weekly.

UNIT FOUR
THE ELECTED OFFICERS IN STUDENTS UNION
Elected officers in the students union are spiritual men and women who were elected to rule, lead, manage, supervise and to guide and guard the general affairs of the students union, till the expiration of their tenure. They shall lead with love, faith, obedience and with the fear of God without favouritism and without hypocrisy.

THE CAUSES OF REMOVAL OR TERMINATION OF THE ELECTED OFFICER OF THE STUDENT UNION IN THIS INSTITUTION
When he dies or leaves the faith.
When he graduates or leaves the college.
If he or she is convicted of sins.
If he becomes a notable truant in the school and fails to be well regular.
If he or she becomes regular late comer.
If he owes up to two trimester in the bursary of the college.
If he fails to pay his students dues.
If he becomes proud or disobedience.
If he or she introduces politics in the spiritual system of the college.
If he or she does not function well in his elected office.
If he or she fails to be an example to other students in tuition payment, in coming early, in regular attendance, in obedience and in faithfulness.

UNIT FIVE
EXPECTIONS FROM THE STUDENTS UNION
The appointed leaders are quite different from the elected leaders. The election gives the elected power to function and authority to go extra miles to the glory of God. Here are things expected from the elected government of the students union.

The entire college body expects changes.
The students body expects progress.
The school authority expects growth and forwardness.
Increase of the number of students is also expected.
Smooth running and peace in the college.
Love and friendship to reign among students.
Prompt payment of tuition fees and other levies.
Prompt payment of the school demanded fees.
Setting task force to check the students both old and new ones who did not bring their chairs, books and other requirements during the admission.
Bringing sanity, purity and holiness to the college.
Advertizing the school in and outside the city
Carrying useful and helpful programmes and projects in the school and for the school.
Working in agreement with the college principles and working for the promotion of the college.
Innovation, expansion and propagation of the total programmes of the college.
Serious prayers, ministerial programmes, evangelism and growth oriented programmes.
Serious and steady support to college church to grow spiritually, numerically and otherwise.

PUNISHABLE OFFENCES IN THE COLLEGE
There are punishable offenses in the college which must attract penalties, punitive actions, fines, disciplines or any disciplinary step against any offender. Students, therefore must be very careful to avoid any thing that may push them into such offences. Here are such offences that may attract punitive actions.
Stealing books from the bookshop or from the library.
Abusive words to lecturers or disrespectful approach to them.
Less regard to the order or instruction of the president.
Immorality, fighting, gossiping or sins of such grade.
Secret meeting, tribal grouping college politics or issues against the school.
Disobedience and insubordination to college authority.
Seductive relationship and unholy friendship.
Indiscipline life, words and pride among students.
Enmity, gossip, hostility and issues that can bring us to disrepute.
Heresies and unscriptural argument that aims to draw innocent students to sin and backsliddeness.
Going to another level or from a junior class to senior class without approval of the course rep and college authority.
Habitual negligence to bring or pay all matric and graduation requirements as seen in students handbook pg 58.
Habitual debts to the school and habitual negligence to pay tuition fees up to two trimesters. All failures to bring a bag of cement, building support levy or project fee in this college.
Habitual lateness and habitual absence in the school.
Habitual negligence to pay students union levies.
Habitual and frequent going out during studies in the school.
Habitual and frequent going out of the school without permission and approval from the campus director.
Habitual negligence to the instruction of the president.
Habitual absence in chapel services and prayers.
Habitual excuses and failures to carry on duties.
Habitual absences in the college exams.
Abusive and disrespectful words in the campus.
Habitual leaving the school before the official time of closing.
Habitual excuses and failure to carry on the official duty one was elected into.
Habitual laziness or excuses to do the job given by the labour prefect or any refusal to carry the orders of the students union chairman, course rep, campus director or any order from the student union officer according to his or her office in this institution.

WARNING TO ALL STUDENTS
Any student who commits any of the above listed offences must surely face equal discipline meant for such offence which shall either be a fine, penalty, labour, rebuke, dismissed (termination of admission), correction, stripe of office or any other disciplinary measure according to the level of his or her offences.

WHAT EVERY STUDENT MUST DO
Every student must be often praying for the growth and survival of this college.
Every student must have it as a habit to tell at least four persons about this college, every week.
Every student must make sure he or she pays his or her fees and tuitions at the due time.
Love must be the foundational character of every student
Building one another is a task to every student.
Every student is expected to bring at least one new student every trimester.
Every student must contribute all at his or her reach, financially, materially, spiritually and otherwise reach, financially, materially, spiritually and otherwise to build this godly institution.
A creditable student of this college is the one who brought at least five new students before his graduation.
Certificate of award shall be accorded to the highest soul winner (student winner) among the students.
To make the college grow should occupy the spirit of every good student of this college.
