LAY WORKERS TRAINING GUIDE

Lay workers training school is the continuation of the services of International Institute of Missions. It is purely established for church workers and all lay officers of our churches. It is a one year certificate course, leading to the certificate of theology certificate of ministry, certificate of missions or the certificate of Christian education. It also offers six months study programme that offers certificate of Christian workers, certificate of evangelism. Those that join their diploma studies if they desire to do so. Lay workers training School aims at training the church workers to be more efficient, wiser, greater and more useful in their Churches and in God’s hand. This is another great means to build our churches and ministries. Lay workers training school is for Deacons, Sunday school teacher, Altar workers. Women officers, youth officers, men officers, committee members, board members and other leader and members of the local church.
The purpose of this department is to enhance peaceful existence between the pastor and the members, to promote church growth, to create peaceful atmosphere in the church to educate the church members and to restore spirituality and holiness in the church of God.

            Courses for lay workers in the church.

1.         DOCTRINE OF REPENTANCE: this course emphasizes and teaches the Biblical meaning of repentance, with Biblical examples of genuine repentance. This course brings the worker closer to God in the question of being sorry for the sin committed.

2.         BIBLICAL MEANING OF CHRISTIAN SALVATION: This course unveils what the Bible is saying about salvation from sin. It will also unveil the purpose of final atonement at the Cross of Calvary. Here salvation shall be taught as a need and means of being free from sin r being saved from sins and their consequences.

3.         DOCTRINE OF RESTITATION: This course deals on Christian restitution as what follows genuine salvation from sins. Here restitution shall be taught as a necessity to Christian practice. Restitution means to restore all things acquired wrongly falsely or wickedly in times of our unbelief.

4.         DOCTRINE OF SANCTIFICATION: This course teaches sanctification as a second work of grace which shall occur to believers who diligently sought for that. It is act of God to purify the believer and set him a part for divine usage. This is the doctrine of heart purity, the removal of the inbred sin, the death of the carnal mind and the destruction of the old man in the believer’s heart.

5.         DOCTRINE OF HOLINSS:  This is other wise the continuation of the doctrine of sanctification. Holiness in the Biblical is seen as the act of devotion, dedication and the act of surrendering all to God. Our God is holy who wants us to be holy. The holiness experience is also called the sanctified life. This course therefore will feature on how to maintain the sanctified life, how to consecration, dedicate, devote and surrender all to God with pure heart void of offence towards God and towards man.

6.         DEVOTIONAL LIFE: This course will teach the student the meaning of devotion and the ocean of Christian spirituality, it will unveil many Bible examples of devoted people and will usher the benefits of Christian devotion. This course is the mountain of Christian Spirituality.

7.         THE INSPIRATION OF THE BIBLE: This course will take the students to the inspiration of the 66 books of the Bible and in doctrinate him on the inspiration, authenticity and the fullness of the Bible. This course will help the student to trust the Biblical God’s word.

8.         THE TRUINE GOD: This course is on the doctrine of Trinity or Trinitology. It will also unveil who is God, the power of God and the existence of God. This teaching is on Christian primary theology which shall reveal three person in one God head.

9.         THE CHURCH OF GOD: This course is on the teachings about the church which JESUS CHRIST built. The initial meaning of the church, the purpose of the church and the life of the church shall be focused in this course. This course will unveil the difference between the lifeless congregation and the church of God whom JESUS redeemed with His precious blood.

10.       AUTHORITY OF THE BELIEVERS: This course will treat the authority of the church as a body and the authority of a believer as an individual. This course will unveil the authority bestowed on the believers in Christ as a result of their faith. This course will encourage the believer to abide in faith.

11.       DOCTRINE OF ETERNITY: This course has to do with eternity in heaven or in hell. It is the primary course on escatology which shall open the eyes of the students to be righteous, obedient and truthful in order to spend eternity in heaven. This course presents heaven and Hellfire as real place for man. Hellfire is for sinners, which heaven is for the saints.

12.       CHRISTIAN COMMITMENTS: This course is on the commitments, duties and business which the church member should be involved. This course otherwise is called War against Idleness in the church. It encourages every believer in the church to commit him or herself to one duty or the other in the church. This course condemns all forms of Idleness, Laziness, Lateness and carelessness in the church of God but encourages diligence.

13.       STEWARDSHIP: This course is different from Christian commitment which encourages believers to occupy, but this course focuses on the very work the believer is doing. Whether an usher, a singer, a teacher, a leader or a chairman, do all as unto the Lord with all diligence. Steward is a servant, while stewardess is the duty of the servant which shall be done selflessly, diligently, obediently and faithfully. This course will encourage the church worker to be serious with what every duty that is committed to him.

14.       FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS IN THE CHURCH: This course unveils the believers financial obligations in his church and urges the believers to respond faithfully. This course reveals the great benefits, blessings and miracles that follow Christian responses to their financial obligations in the church of God. This course highlights the need of faithfulness in offerings, seed faith, vows, giving and other monetary issues in the church.
15.       MINISTRY OF THE BELIEVERS: This course calls every believer “a minister” and emphasizes that everyone is saved to save others. The course sees all works done in the church, at home, in the business world or in the secular offices as ministries unto the Lord and encourages the believers to be faithful in all. This course sees the secular works of the believers as their secular ministries, while sees their church works as sacred ministries, thus every believer has two-fold ministries.

16.       FRUITS AND GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: This is an important course that presents both the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit. The fruits of the Spirit stand as inner power, while the gifts of the Spirit stand as the outer action. None of the two can feature without each other, thus, believers are urged to seek for both in their life and ministries. The fruits make us live holily, while the gifts makes us to work powerfully.

17.       CHRISTIAN WORSHIP: This course reveals the importance and significances of Christian worship. It tells what God does each time of Christian gathering are reveals why believers should gather often in worship of the Lord. This course goes further to teach what is worship, things needed in worship, how to worship and the blessings in worship.

18.       CHURCH ATTENDANCE: This course is on the doctrine of church attendance and the Spiritual meaning of going to church on time. This course unveils to the believers why they should attend church, what follows church attendance, who ordered church attendance and why church attendance is very necessary to the believer.

19.       THE INTEGRITY OF CHRISTIAN WORKER: This course reveals to every Christian worker whom he is before God, before the church, before his home and before the world and therefore urges every church worker to maintain stainless integrity, well pronounced reputation and true holiness inorder to truly represent JESUS whose work he is doing.

20.       THE FUNCTIONS OF BOARDS AND COMMITTES IN THE CHURCH: This course treats the functions, businesses and expectations of board and committees in the church of God. These include the Deacons board, General board, District board and every other functional board in the church. The committees are the building committee, educational committee and other functional committee in the church. The duties and approved functions of boards and committees are hereafter outlined.

21.       THE FUNCTIONS OF MEN LEADERS, WOMEN LEADERS AND YOUTH LEADERS IN THE CHURCH: This course presents the functions of the men’s leaders, women’s leaders, youth leaders in the church and the purpose of creating man’s fellowship in the church. This is a harmonizing course that fights against friction and tensions in the church but aims at bringing growth in the church of God.

22.       FUNCTIONS OF SUNDAY SCHOOL IN THE CHURCH: This course teaches the functions of Sunday School Superintendent, the duties of Sunday school teachers and Secretary and the entire duties and vision of the Sunday school department in the church. This course presents church growth as the primary purpose of the Sunday school business in the church of God.

23.       THE TEAM WORK IN THE LOCAL CHURCH: This course creates idea of team work in the church and unveils the benefits and dividends in members of the church working as a team to achieve their goals. Whether in evangels, church building, prayers or in fund raising, team work has been approved to be more successful and the best.

24.       EVANGELISM AND MISSIONS: This is the first and the main call of the church, the task of the believers and the entire duty of the saved. Every believer must evangelize fully either in person or in substitute. Evangelism is not an optional business of the believer. This course teaches how to evangelize, when to evangelize, where to evangelize, whom to evangelize and the need of missionary works of the Christian. Any church without evangelism is not of Christ and any believer without evangelism is not saved at all. Evangelism is a “MUST” to every believer and to every church on earth.

25.       PRAYERS IN THE CHURCH: This course treats the need of collective church prayers, the functions of prayer band in the church and the need of individual prayers in the church. This course teaches when to pray, how to pray and why prayers. This will give guidelines on Christian prayers and instructs the church and individual saints to follow the examples.

26.       CHILDREN DEPARTMENT IN THE CHURCH: This course gives hints on how to train the little Children, how to bring them to salvation and how important are the souls of Children. The course also provides how important is children ministry in the church. This course gives light to church children teachers to be greatly armed inorder to handle children properly and effectively.

27.       THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHURCH TO THE PASTOR: This course has to do with what the church owes her pastor, what each member of the church should do to his pastor. This course encourages the church members to help, support and visit their pastor. The course unveils why the church members should support their pastor with money, materials, foods, and other items. This course will also reveals the blessings in supporting the man of God.

28.       THE CHURCH AND PASTORS RELATIONSHIP: This course presents neutral and unbiased relationship between the pastor and his church. It goes further to outline what the pastor owes his members and what members owe their pastor. In other word the pastor owes his members constant prayers, visitation, teaching, counseling, encouragements, protection and daily presentation of the members family to God. The members also owe their pastor on love offering, prayers, supports, gifts and sustenance. This course unveils what the pastor must do and that the members must do to sustain in the church.

29.       THE EVANGELISM TEAM IN THE CHURCH: This is the most important team in the church because it stands for the purpose of JESUS on earth. This team is called evangelism team whose duties are to convert souls, evangelize, win sinners and to cause church growth. In Nigeria, Assemblies of God calls this team “Christ Ambassadors, BMC Nigeria call the team “Massagers of Christ” others call them Christ army, stewards or church workers. Whatever name it is called, the purpose is to win souls. This course gives insight on the benefits and victory in team actions and gives guidelines on how evangelism team should function.
30.       THE DOCTRINE OF TITHING: This course brings the students to the need and importance of tithing. It projects blessings in the tithe paying and unveils curses that follow tithe defaulting. This course teaches that Christian tithe must be to of the believers income and emphasizes that tithe is still for believers today with scriptural examples.

31.       CHRISTIAN FAMILY: This course is on the first church of the Christian worker otherwise known as his family. The Christian family must epitome of the church of Christ. This course teaches on how Christian family should be, how it should look alike and the businesses and ministries of the Christian family. This course is for the married and not for the single believers in the church.

32.       HTRE DELIVERANCE TEAM IN THE CHURCH: This course unveils the activities of the unseen powers in the world, in the church, at home and among individuals and calls for a deliverance team that shall be fully stand for the deliverance of the oppressed. This course gives ideas on the duties and ministries of the deliverance team. How they should live, their action, devotions, power, spirituality and how to cast out demons, break demons chains and break all curses to set the oppressed free. This is a course on primary Demonology.

33.       THE INTEGRITY OF THE UNMARRIED CHURCH WORKER: This course reminds the unmarried believers how precious is his or her body as the temple of the Holy Spirit. This course encourages the unmarried Christian worker to be faithful, diligent, dutiful and always in good relationship with the Holyghost. This is another course on revival to all unmarried.

34.       LAY MINISTRIES OF HEALING AND PROPHECIES IN THE CHURCH: This course deals on the lay workers with the gifts of healing and prophecies. Who are they? Are they now pastors or still lay men? Are they prophets or prophecies? This course will help the ministers to mention their membership in their churches and never to start another church because of their gifts. This explains that such gift never signify divine calls but gifts to make the local church to grow. This courser gives directive on how to go along with such gifts healing and prophecies in the church among the lay members of the church.

35.       THE FUNCTIONS OF ALTAR WORKERS, USHER AND THE CHORISTER IN THE CHURCH: This course shall deliberate on the functions or duties of altar workers, the usher and the duties or functions of the Chorister. These three officers and leaders of the church have different functions. Their functions in the church of Jesus Christ have much to do with the growth stability, peace and spirituality of the church. This course will deal on the functions of each of these three in three different ways.

36.       SIGNS OF DIVINE CALL INTO FULL TIME MINISTRY: This course deals on the signs which a lay worker may have that signify God’s call on him for full time ministry. This course shall expose the lay worker the secrets of God’s voice and the signs of God’s hand on a Christian worker. AM 1 called? How can I know I am called? How does God call a man unto full time ministry? How did these men of God I am seeing know God called them? These and many other questions regarding the church workers call into full time ministry shall be discussed in this lesson.

37.       GIVING IN THE CHURCH: This course deals on an important ministry of all believers called “GIVING”. This is only the ministry no one claims to have, still this is the key to believers miracles, blessings and miracles. This course will teak the need to give to God, how to give to God and when to give to God. This course is for Gods people alone.

38.       CHRISTIAN FAITH AND FAITHFULNESS: This course deals on the faith and faithfulness of the believer with concentration to the church workers. What is faith and how can a believer acquire true faith and what do we mean by faithfulness and who is a faithful Christian? This course teaches that faithfulness of a believer sustains his faith and makes the believer to pray effectively. This course will reveals how to gat things from God.

39.       BELIEVERS DILIGENCE: This course will deal on believers business in the church, in the society and at home and calls for the need of diligence in whatever business the believer is involved irrespective of the place and the time. This course introduces diligence as a tool of miracles and prosperity.

40.       PREACHING AND TEACHING PRACTICES: This course is on how to preach, how to teach, what to preach, what to teach, where to get the text and how to form a topic for preaching. The course goes further to exposes the materials for teaching. This course is fully based on what will make the lay worker a good preacher and a good teacher of the word.

41.       CONFLICT RESOLUTION: This deals on how to control tension crisis conflict, disagreement or misunderstanding in the church. It also deals on how to store problems, end frictions, fighting, troubles and quarrellings in the church of God through the scriptural guidelines. This course will reveal the cost of peace and unity in the church of Jesus Christ.

42.       CHURCH PLANTING: This course will teach, direct and motivate a lay worker on how to plan a church, where to plan church and when church planting is necessary. The course will prepare as many as have missions and evangelism as their ministry priorities. This very course will help the church worker to be a man of God even as a lay worker in the church.

43.       FOLLOW UP: This course will give the lay worker the strategies and workable means of follow up, visitation and built to get a new visitor, new convert, the weak or the hypocrite back to God and strategies to make him a full member of the church. This course will build the lay worker with the ingredients of winning people for Christ.

44.       BELIEVERS WARFARE PRAYERS: This course will expose at home, in the church and within the individuals. This course will help the student to be a war man and army of the Lord. This is also known as the prophetic warfare.

45.       CHRISTIAN STANDARDS: This course treats about Christian standard, Christian attire and Christian public appearance. This course will expose the student on how believers should dress, should appear or how a believer should work like in public functions. It is on issues rejected by the Bible and issues accepted by the Bible which believers should follow and should project.

46.       OPEN AIR PREACHING: This course will make the student know how conduct open air preaching, indoor meeting or how the believers shall carry on group or individual open air preaching in the field, church, along the street. This is called church crusade. The purpose of this course is to know how to conduct crusade and win souls.

47.       MOBILE MINISTRY: This course teaches the strategies of mobile ministries which include motor preaching, tract sharing, book sharing, electronic preaching and other means of communications through motilities and other visible and simple means of reaching people for Christ.

48.       MANAGEMENT OF CEREMONIES: This course helps the lay worker to know what to do, how to serve and how to entertain guests in Christian occasions, in ceremonies, in weddings and other occasions in the church. This helps the lay worker to know how to manage church occasions.

HOW TO APPLY FOR LAY TRAINING IN OUR BIBLE COLLEGE.

1.         The application is requested to come in person to our office and request for an application form.

2.         The College that trains the lay workers in our Institution is called “International Institute of Missions (Intermissio)”.

3.         The applicant should also request for the College show case comprising the catalogue, the prospective and the college profile and pay the price in order to know the courses available.

4.         The applicant has right to choose the time of his or her studies whether regular or on sandwich studies.

5.         The applicant shall not go with the form but must fill the same after payment and return the same to our office the same day.
